The good, the bad and the curious of Yuletide music.

New York City's Blues Magoos, regarded as pioneers of psychedelic rock, only had one major hit, (We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet, released in 1966. Their version of John D. Loudermilk's Tobacco Road, from the same year, is on the magnificent and highly influential 1972 compilation album Nuggets.
Their version of of Jingle Bells was released as the A-side of a not very successful single in 1967. It's hard to find any traces of the original melody in the Blues Magoos interpretation, but it's still a cool version.
Listen to Jingle Bells.
Or listen on Spotify, where I've created a playlist for this year's Advent Calendar.
The Spotify playlist for all the previous Advent Calendars is here. Note: The playlist is incomplete, as some of my calendar selections are just too obscure for Spotify.
Not very much left of the original Jingle Bells tune in the Blues Magoos version.
