Polar Music, the record company founded by Bengt Bernhag and future ABBA manager Stig Anderson in 1963 celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. In fact, their very first release, the Hootenanny Singers' single Jag väntar vid min mila, was issued exactly 60 years ago, in early November 1963.
Polar has just launched a website about the label, featuring discographies, playlists and all sorts of stuff. I wrote the biographies for almost all the artists featured, while the stories about the record label and Stig Anderson are based on my In Focus features on these subjects for the official ABBA website.
The only artist biography I didn't write is the one about the 1990s band Beagle, but there's a fun ABBA/Polar connection. One of the members of Beagle was Daniel Sandström, who today is a publisher at Albert Bonniers Förlag - and he commissioned Jan Gradvall's recently published ABBA book Vemod undercover.
Polar Music - six decades of music.
