Except for acoustic pianos, the only keyboard instrument Benny Andersson remained faithful to during the ABBA years was his beloved Minimoog. Acquired in London in the spring of 1973, it didn't appear on the group's debut album Ring Ring, but it's all over Waterloo and the subsequent albums, right up to the group's final recording: The Day Before You Came.
A few months ago I was contacted by author JoE Silva, who was then in the very final stages of completing a book devoted to the history of the Minimoog and all the famous musicians who used it. He wanted to know about Benny's usage of the Minimoog, and I was happy to help him with that. The result is two fascinating pages in The Minimoog Book, which was recently published by Bjooks Publishing. You even get the settings for recreating the famous Minimoog riff heard in Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)!
You may purchase a copy of the book at the Bjooks Publishing website.
