The good, the bad and the curious of Yuletide music.

We’re back to the dark side of Christmas again! At least if the description of this recording on Bandcamp.com is to be believed.
“Individual tragedies can add sad moments to these ‘holy’ days and stay mostly undiscussed. Kabanjak’s ‘Holy Night’ aims to give this sadness and desperation a musical voice. […] Kabanjak reworked the theme of the song in his very own way by adding a dark and psychedelic groove to it. He turned the happy major song into a dark and tragic minor version.”
I only read the above after hearing the recording, and my uninformed take on it was that this version of Silent Night was atmospheric and reflective, rather than dark, if just slightly spooky. But sure, I’ve experienced a few uncomfortable Christmases myself, so I understand where Kabanjak was coming from.
Kabanjak is the nom de plume for one Ingo Möll, and Holy Night was first released in 2013.
Listen to Holy Night.
Or listen on Spotify, where I've created a playlist for this year's Advent Calendar.
The Spotify playlist for all the previous Advent Calendars is here. Note: The playlist is incomplete, as some of my calendar selections are just too obscure for Spotify.
Atmospheric or just plain dark? You be the judge.
