The good, the bad and the curious of Yuletide music.

We haven’t explored much of the downbeat side of Christmas in the Advent Calendar so far. However, doo-wop pioneers The Orioles are here to change that with this wistful ballad, originally issued as a 78 rpm disc in 1948, reaching #8 on Billboard's Rhythm & Blues chart (or "Race Records" chart, as it was still called then). “This year I’ll be blue and lonely listening to / The music from the party, ‘cross the hall.” Bleak indeed.
Listen to (It’s Gonna Be A) Lonely Christmas.
Or listen on Spotify, where I've created a playlist for this year's Advent Calendar.
The Spotify playlist for all the previous Advent Calendars is here. Note: The playlist is incomplete, as some of my calendar selections are just too obscure for Spotify.
