Agnetha & Frida in ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions

published November 21, 2025

Work on ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions 1972–1982 is ongoing and you can still pre-order your signed copy at Kickstarter. As for the publication date, it looks unlikely that I will have it out by March 2026 as I had hoped. At the moment I think April or May is more likely, but we shall see. We're not talking years of delays, just a few months.

I'm truly excited to be working on ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions again. One of the major problems for anyone writing in-depth about the creation of ABBA's music is that Agnetha and Frida are so often left out of the story. They were the two most popular members of the band, yet, because they didn't write and produce the music, they are easily reduced to bit-parts when the ABBA recordings are discussed. Historically, talking about their singing has rarely been the main focus of interviews with ABBA's female half.

I am so grateful that I got to put questions to them about this subject back in the 1990s, when I was writing the first edition of ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions. I am even happier that I was able to put together the very detailed essay entitled Recording the vocals for the revised edition of the book in 2017, using my own interviews with the ABBA members and engineer Michael B. Tretow, and also other sources. Re-reading and updating that essay for the forthcoming edition, I am quite proud of what I accomplished with it, and it also feels good to be able to add some new insights and perspectives to it, making it even better.

If nothing else, the Recording the vocals essay makes clear that Agnetha and Frida didn't just sing the songs – they made a vital creative contribution as well.

Pre-order your signed copy of this ultimate edition of ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions by pledging for a "Reward" at Kickstarter (p&p is included).

Agnetha and Frida: their vital contribution to ABBA's recordings is thoroughly explored in ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions.
