ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions: new discoveries

published October 15, 2025

As some of you reading this may already be aware, I am currently working on the third edition of my book ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions 1972–1982. The first edition was published in 1994, followed by a second edition in 2017: this edition was so thoroughly revised and significantly expanded that, in my opinion, it counts as an entirely new book. The third edition, which I'm preparing right now, came about as a result of demands for a reprint, since quite a few people missed out on the 2017 version. You can still pre-order your signed copy of this new edition on the Kickstarter page for the project.

Now that I’ve been working on this project for a while, I would like to share some observations. As I’ve mentioned previously, the moment the 2017 edition was published I started an Updates & Corrections document, and that document now forms the basis for the revisions I’m making to the book. Naturally, I am also reading through the book, page by page, syllable by syllable, to catch everything from typos to awkward phrasing. I would lie if I didn’t say that I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported this project, enabling me to make all those corrections.

But there’s also an unexpected positive consequence of going through the book like this, for in doing so, I’m actually getting new ideas that are not in my Updates & Corrections document. Like, “Oh, if I added this observation about this song, it would actually enhance the reading experience and make the book even more interesting than it already is”. Or, I’m reminded of something that I’ve learned about ABBA over the past decade that maybe I didn’t think would have any bearing on ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions, but which I now realise that it does. And so, it gets entered into this new edition.

Rewarding work, indeed. If you haven’t already done so, you can pre-order a signed copy of what promises to be the ultimate edition of the book by going to the Kickstarter page and make a “pledge” for a “Reward” (the reward is a signed copy of the book, including shipping). You will find the different Rewards (depending on shipping area) if you scroll down the Kickstarter page a bit. Thanks in advance for your support!
