The good, the bad and the curious of Yuletide music.

The wonderful Vashti Bunyan has appeared in the Advent Calendar before, as a guest vocalist with Twice As Much on Mann & Weil's Coldest Night Of The Year. Here's she's back with an even bleaker rumination on winter chill. This version of Winter Is Blue was meant to be a single on Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate label in 1967 but remained unreleased for decades. Fortunately, Vashti Bunyan enjoyed renewed interest in her long-forgotten album Just Another Diamond Day in the late 1990s, which lead to this lovely recording being dug out of the vaults and released in 2007.
Listen to Winter Is Blue.
Or listen on Spotify, where I've created a playlist for this year's Advent Calendar.
The Spotify playlist for all the previous Advent Calendars is here. Note: The playlist is incomplete, as some of my calendar selections are just too obscure for Spotify.
